My cat has a concussion and is still whining. How to ease his pain?

Look at his pupils, check his head for any swollen areas or wounds, check his teeth for any fractures. The pupils should be symmetrical and should respond to light normally. Watch him closely when he walks. He should not exhibit any stumbling or incoordination. He should also not appear disoriented. You may try to avoid any strenuous play with Yoshi for the next 12 hours. Avoid any jumping. Monitor his eating and drinking very closely. If you see any potential signs of a concussion, err on the side of caution and have Yoshi examined immediately. I hope this helps and that he does well.

I am so sorry to hear this. Based on what you are describing I would assume that the head trauma Dada sustained has caused swelling on the brain. This would account for the neurological symptoms you are seeing. Unfortunately cats with head trauma need intensive nursing care, special IV medications to help decrease the swelling, and possible oxygen therapy. I'm so sorry that Noah Khan hit his head! He's in the best place possible with the vet, and they can monitor him and treat him as needed. I would keep him there as long as the vets recommend to keep him, and I'm sure they are doing everything they can for him. Unfortunately all you can do is wait for updates and hope that he will be ok. Hang in there, I know it's so hard and I will be hoping as well he pulls through ok!

Unfortunately we cannot, by law, recommend that you give any medication to poor Oliver that was not personally prescribed by your own veterinarian. Even with that said, Gabapentin is rarely used in cats because we don't have enough clinical evidence to support using it safely in them for analgesic (pain management) purposes. It sounds like Oliver may have suffered a concussion or even has a musculoskeletal injury around his neck area. You can apply a cold compress on the neck area for 5-10 minutes to help with any suspected swelling for now, and then I recommend getting him seen in the morning by your local vet. Your regular vet may not be open on the weekend; however, there are usually some clinics open (like VCA or Banfield) that can help Oliver get examined, tested for internal injury, and treated appropriately with safe medication specific to his particular injury.

It sounds like Bear's head is hurting, and he may have hit the side of his head. Please do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. I'd take him into the vet first thing in the morning.

I am sorry to hear about Eddie! Unfortunately there are not any safe pain medications available over the counter for cats. I would recommend getting Eddie to a veterinarian for an exam and pain medication (antibiotics may also be needed if bite wounds are present). Cats are very sensitive to drugs and there are only a few prescription pain medications available that are considered safe (these include buprenorphine and Onsior).

Oh ouch! That looks really painful! I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Topical antibiotics may be needed as well as pain medication. Unfortunately there is nothing safe for pain medication over the counter for cats. I agree that the cone is important to keep him from making it worse in the meantime.
