My cat has a chipped tooth, no pain. Does she need an emergency vet?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Nemo is not showing any signs of pain or discomfort he does not have to be seen by a vet immediately. Mild bleeding should stop within the next 30-60 min. However, broken canine tooth should be extracted as there is an increased risk of infection and chronic pain through the exposed tooth pulp.

You shouldn't be too worried, from my experience it's rare that a cat this age would need a full dental work as such at this age, it the tooth does not seem to be decaying and if he has no trouble eating, i would leave it as it is for the time being.

If she is acting normal (eating, drinking, playing, eliminating normally) I think you are ok to wait until your vet is open. If she won't eat and drink you should find a vet that is open and have her evaluated. Most times these situations are not emergencies unless the owner has a show dog or cat. There is no need to take him in to your veterinarian at this time if the area where he lost the tooth is not hurting. Since you obviously have scheduled a dental cleaning for Milo, your vet can inspect the area during the dental cleaning while he is under sedation. The vet will also do dental radiographs to check for retained roots and neck lesions. These will need to be removed.

Hello. At some point in time, Picole could still develop an abscess that could travel down into her jaw. The recommendation of all veterinary dental specialists is to either have the tooth removed or perform a root canal, even on an older fractured tooth. I would recommend seeking emergency veterinary care for at least pain control tonight if she is uncomfortable, lethargic, salivating a lot, whining or vomiting. If you think her signs are mild, then you can probably monitor her and see your normal vet in the morning. Good luck!

It's actually a medical emergency when a cat won't eat, and I suspect that broken tooth is painful to Whiskie. I would load her up in the car, and drive her to the closest vet you can find as this cannot be treated at home.
