My cat chews ironed clothes & bedding. How do I train her to stop?

This is likely behavioral. I would recommend providing her with plenty of toys that will keep her occupied. You can also consider using a bitter spray to apply to the things she chews on most to try and deter her from continuing this behavior. I hope this helps! If she actually ingesting the non food items, this condition is indeed called feline pica. If she is sucking or nursing on them, this is an entirely different behavior. Ideally, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose any underlying medical causes. Once those have been ruled out you can focus on behavioral causes. Many times, stress or boredom can cause aberrant behavior. Consider a pheromone product such as Feliway Spray or plug in diffuser to decrease any stress or anxiety. Keep Maui engaged and distracted using a variety of toys and exercise. Restrict access to those items she eats or sucks on, stopping and correcting the behavior when observed. Be consistent and be patient.

Unfortunately, you can't train her not to chew on the tags. You may look for a smaller tag or one of the collars that has an insert for the information or even has the information printed on the collar. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

The best thing and what I would recommend is contacting a pet trainer that can work with you and him in person. There are plenty of highly trained people around the country that can help with this. That would be the best approach as you have already tried toys and everything else. You can try using catnip which sometimes has a positive effect in these cases. That is a very common behavior in cats! If the papers are something you don't want them eating, keeping it out of reach or safely in a drawer is best. If they like chewing things, giving them their own box to chew on, or even toys such as a cardboard scratching post to play with can help divert their attention to those items instead.

You are correct she is probably teething. I would cover the basket with a thick towel to prevent her from getting to it, or remove the basket entirely until she’s older. I don’t want her to get sick from this. There are lots of cat toys available so get some that are safe for her to chew on. She should grow out of this in a few months.
