My only cat seems bored and lonely. Is this normal? Get another cat?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 6.5 lbs

My Russian Blue female turned one year old. She has lost interest in playing with her toys and seems to be bored and lonely even though she is almost never left alone. She wonders around the house mewing as if looking for something to do. She often goes to a back room and sits by herself. She does like attention and petting though definitely not a lap cat. She is an only pet. Normal behavior? Should consider another cat for company? Haven’t a clue as to how she might react .

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would not be alarmed by this at all. The beauty of cats is how particular and unique they are and some cats just like to keep to their own more. You may get another cat for sure though this is not necessary. Best of luck!
