Why does my cat have a bleeding head wound and bloody diarrhea?

There are many things that could cause his symptoms. Unfortunately they are non-specific and could be a symptoms of almost anything. Bleeding from the anus frequently signifies a serious disorder. Possible causes of bleeding from the anus can include polyps or tumors of the colon or anus, abscess or infection of the anal gland, constipation, blood clotting disorders, autoimmune disease or even certain types of poisoning. Any chance he ate a toxic plant or was exposed to any toxins? Intestinal parasites are another possibility. Whipworms are intestinal parasites. They are about 1/4-inch long and live in the cecum and colon of the cat, where they cause severe irritation to the lining of those organs. This results in watery, bloody diarrhea. They can also have weight loss and general debilitation. Whipworms are one of the most pathogenic (harmful) worms found in cats. Has a fecal sample been tested? Whipworms can also cause vomiting. Any chance the blood is dripping from his penis and not the anus? In younger cats a common cause of bloody urine is the presence of crystals in urine (crystalluria). When left undiagnosed and untreated, these crystals can lead to blockage of the urethra in some male cats. Has a urinalysis been done? This is the best I can tell you at this time. The fact that Poe is exhibiting Pica, ie eating non-edible things is a very loud warning sign that he is ill. Bleeding from the intestinal tract can be a sign of sharp foreign body trauma, but it can also be a sign of serious intestinal disease. Please take poe to your veterinarian for an exam. You may also want to bring a stool sample. Your vet will need to do blood tests, and likely xrays in order to be able to find his problem.

These are very concerning signs - bleeding from the mouth can be a sign of a serious illness such as heart disease, severe liver or kidney disease, a clotting disorder, or severe dental problems. Combined with the fact that he is just laying down and pooping without realizing it, I would be very worried that he has a serious, life-threatening problem as this is extremely abnormal in cats - it often indicates that they are so weak and sick that they don't notice or care that they are soiling themselves. I would recommend getting your kitty to an emergency vet right away - he/she can do a thorough oral exam, and may also need to do blood work and x-rays to help diagnose the problem and see what can be done to help him.

Blood in the feces can be caused by many different things including diarrhea (can be caused by eating something silly, worms, toxins), can also be caused by rat bait toxin, clotting factor problems, or an abscess. If there is blood dripping from the bum, then I would recommend having Krookie seen by a vet as soon as possible, as some of these conditions can be fatal if not treated right away. Likely it will be something that can be fixed with some medications, however best to get it checked right away. Best of luck with Krookie.

Small specks of red blood during a bout of diarrhea is not unusual as the delicate lining of the back passage can become damaged from straining. As long as he is bright and alert, eating and drinking it would be ok to leave him but if any lethargy, weakness or vomiting occurs he should be seen urgently by your vet. Be sure he is up to date with deworming medication as intestinal worms are a common cause of diarrhea in young kittens

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is adorable! The eye could have suffered some damage perhaps caused by trauma requiring medical or even surgical help. The diarrhea could be perhaps due to parasites. I highly recommend that you have your kitty evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment which may include eye drops and anti-diarrhea medications. There can be many things causing this, including IBD, intestinal lymphoma, constipation causing trauma to the colon, intestinal parasites, anal gland issues, rectal polyps, bleeding/clotting disorders, among many others. I would recommend that Scooter be evaluated by your veterinarian to see what could be the cause and to receive appropriate treatment.
