My cat has a severe black wound. Is it a tumor? What are my options?

This wound does look very uncomfortable and ideally a feeding tube and repeat surgery to remove further dead tissue would provide room for healing. Alternatively, oral antibiotics, medical grade honey on the wound and feeding a blended, high calorie soft food such as royal canin recovery may provide enough relief for him to heal it over time but will not work if he is unable to swallow either from pain or swelling in which case euthanasia is recommended

I am sorry to hear about your kitty. Unfortunately from these photos it does not appear that at home care is going to be appropriate anymore. I am concerned based on the picture that some of the tissue/skin around the wound could be devitalized/dying. He likely needs systemic antibiotics and wound care by a professional at this point. This looks pretty serious I'm afraid. I would be worried that this is a a cancer. You will need to take her to a vet for an exam. There is no way around that. Poor guy. There is no telling what caused this type of injury. However. since he won’t let you touch it, it is best to take him to your vet to have this area cleaned up and and examined up close. If he is particularly painful then a light sedative may be needed. The black that you see is likely a scan which can be hiding a non-healing wound underneath. Many lacerations on cats require a short course of antibiotics to help them heal properly. Even if things are looking ok underneath the scab it’s still a good idea to take him in to make sure this is healing well and doesn’t need any other type of treatment. This lesion is very severe and requires antibiotics and proper wound care. The area surrounding the area affected must be clipped and disinfected appropriately and antibiotics (topical or systemic) are required.

I am sorry to hear that Cloudy is hurt. It looks like the wound is becoming infected. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. He likely needs antibiotics.
