My cat has a black bug on ear, black gunk, and keeps scratching.

That sounds most like an old dried blood clot. He could have had a small nick that bled, or a current ear infection, or even an ear polyp (which are pretty common in cats, although usually younger ones than Mr. President). I'd recommend a vet visit to get that checked out.

Judging from the picture you provided, I see black waxy material and also a tattoo that has been done on the inside of the pinna. The tattoo is likely to indicate that she has been spayed and it is in the pattern of a circle with a linear line through it. That is not a concern at all and will be permanent. The black wax may be due to ear mites or an ear infection though. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Fluffy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Many cats who have been in a shelter situation could catch an upper respiratory infection. This may cause sneezing, discharge from the eyes and nose, and even sores in the mouth depending on the type of infection it is. If he is still acting normal, eating and drinking and playful, you could monitor him at home. If his appetite is affected or he sounds very congested or there is green or yellow discharge from the eyes and nose, you should have him evaluated by a veterinarian. Little black bugs in the ears could be ticks, mites, lice or fleas. I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian to identify the bugs and choose the correct medication to treat them.

Poor Spookette! It sounds like she may have a pretty bad ear infection. Ear infections can be due to mites, bacteria, or yeast in cats. I'd recommend scheduling an examination with a veterinarian so Spookette can have her ears checked out. A swab can be taken from the ears and evaluated under the microscope to determine if the cause is mites, bacteria, or yeast. She will likely need prescription ear medication to treat. It's probably earmites, they usually look like ground coffee or dried blood, very irritating for your cat, you should take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated, it is not life threatening though.

Based on the photo this could be little blackheads (not common) or it could be hyperpigmentation areas which is caused by chronic inflammation. NO worries though, unless they are causing irritation or excessive scratching, which it looks like they aren't, then you don't need to treat this at all. Best wishes with your kitty Bean. Take care.

Without seeing the bug it is very hard to say what it might be. It could have been a tick, a flea, lice, or something else. I suggest you take her to a vet for an exam. They can give you an anti-parasite medication to put on her.
