My cat fell from the balcony. How to prevent her from falling again?

There are nets you can affix to the balcony so he cannot fall off. Search for "balcony cat netting" on the internet. This would be for outside balconies though. However you could have that affixed from the balcony over to the wall. Since that balcony is inside the house, I doubt he will fall off. However you may not be able to decorate that balcony with things, as he will start playing with the decorations......and break them.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats, with a bit of work, can be taught to walk on a leash ( harness ). The best would be never to let your cat outdoors as this increases the chances of run ins with cars, dogs & other cats. But once a cat is comfortable in a home, they very rarely leave, unless something happens. Make sure Luna is spayed, & consider placing a microchip in her. That way, if she does slip off, any veterinarian or shelter can scan her & get her back home to you quickly. Hope this helps. Take care.

Wow, I’m glad she is walking fine and using the box. You’re very lucky she wasn’t more injured. I expect she is bruised and painful. I recommend keeping her quiet and monitoring her to make sure she’s eating, drinking and walking normally. There is no safe over the counter pain medication for cats. If she’s still painful or becomes worse I recommend a veterinary exam. They can give a safe prescription medication for pain in cats if needed. Cats generally heal well on their on their own given time and rest. That was a bad fall though so please to take her in right away if you see a medical problem develop. There are mesh panels which can be fitted to escape - you would need to monitor closely at the start to ensure your cats do not attack and create holes in them if very persistent! There are also child proof restrictors which limit the window opening to only an inch or so to allow for ventilation - ensure they are not open enough for a cats head to get stuck however. If possible, keeping the cat out of the room with opened windows would also ensure they could not fall

I get being concerned, you certainly don't want Jessi to jump off the balcony. To be safe, I would let her go out there when you are there so you can ensure she doesn't try to jump off. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I would recommend Brownie see a veterinarian today to be sure she hasn't sustained any injuries that are not directly obvious, such as a head injury, just to be on the safe side. Sometimes injuries may not be noticed at first after a traumatic event such as a fall from a window, even if they land on their feet, so I would recommend Brownie get looked at by a veterinarian today if possible. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think you are asking how to train your cat to not go through the door to the outside deck? Cats are very hard to train. You can use a noise deterrent or water squirt bottle to essentially scare Gracie from going near the door but I don't recommend that. It is environmental enrichment to allow cats to look outside. My suggestion is to keep the screen closed unless you are there on the deck. If you want to allow her on the deck when you can watch her then do so. There are ways to clicker train and positively reinforce animals to sit at the door and not go through it. This will take time and cats do not train as well as dogs. Have a great day!
