My cat ate a pistachio shell after surgery. Should I induce vomiting?

Hello, remove any food available to him and just have water available. Bring him to your veterinarian when they open in the morning and look for any potential clothing, toys, or string that he could have eaten and let your veterinarian know if you're suspicious he may have gotten into something. King will most likely require x-rays and bloodwork to check for potential causes of his vomiting. My biggest suspicious is that he could have eaten something that is now stuck in his GI tract. Hi. Poor Joey. Good news is they aren't toxic to him. The only concern would be if for some reason the shell gets stuck in the intestines and causes a block. Hopefully he chewed it well. Lol. A blockage is rare, but possible. Monitor closely for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, or decreased defecation. You would then want to see your veterinarian if you notice any of those right away. Good luck.

I never recommend including vomiting at home because the substance used at home causes esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem. Plus, the shoe could become stuck in his esophagus, leading to a very serious situation. You can take him into a vet now to have vomiting safely induced with a shot, or you can chose to monitor him. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, anorexia, or lethargy, he should see a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Considedring your cat is vomiting and has not eaten in 4 days, there is a large risk that he is developing liver disease. This is now an emergency. Please take Prince to a Pet ER right away. This is life threatening.

Oh dear! Cats are notoriously more difficult to induce vomiting than dogs, and the home remedies previously recommended (such as hydrogen peroxide) have been shown to cause pretty significant damage to the esophagus. As a result, it's best to avoid inducing vomit unless it's done with injectable medications by a vet. (Even that can be hit or miss as far as getting it to work!) I wouldn't worry about inducing vomiting. The good news is that the paper stem of the q-tip should be digested/broken down to some degree by Totoro's stomach acids. While the cotton won't break down, the tips are small enough that they *should* be able to pass without intervention. There really isn't anything that you an do to make this process go faster, but you can closely monitor Totoro at home. Keep an eye on his overall energy level, appetite, and for the presence of any vomiting and/or diarrhea. If any of these things change, be sure to take Totoro to his vet right away for evaluation. They'll need to check for a possible obstruction or blockage. You don't need to thoroughly examine his stool, but try to keep an eye out for cotton remnants when you scoop the litter box. Considering the signs you are describing and the previous episodes (and surgeries performed) I would recommend an immediate check up. Early intervention is always appropriate in these cases, either with medical or eventually with surgical treatment. Abdominal imaging to visualize possible obstruction (abdominal ultrasound), mineral oil or paraffin oil could eventually be given to ease gastrointestinal passage.
