My cat ate a mouse. Is it safe? Can he digest fur and bones?

Mice are not an unusual snack for cats and rarely cause any symptoms at all other than occasionally vomiting. Monitor for any severe vomiting and report to your vet if this occurs. If mouse bait is used, there is a possibility she may be exposed to this so monitor for any other unusual signs

With a dog Ace's size, the mouse likely will not cause any problems such as an intestinal obstruction. It may cause vomiting / diarrhea, but he will likely be fine as the bones will dissolve in the stomach. It is unlikely that the mouse bones will cause any problems because they are solid bones and very small. Eating anything unusual however can result in an upset stomach so watch him closely for the next 24 hours for any vomiting, diarrhea or not eating well. Cats do definitely eat strange things sometimes! Since it sounds like your kitty has vomited up the toothpick and both are acting normal right now, I wouldn't be too concerned. If either of them starts to show any signs of a problem, like not eating, acting lethargic, or continued vomiting, then it would be best to take the affected cat in to the vet for an exam.
