My cat ate memory foam, vomiting, not eating. Is it a blockage?

Hi there. Poor Mittens! Unfortunately with her history I would highly recommend having her seen as soon as possible-she could be blocked (it actually sounds like she is). It is possible she could pass it with laxatives and iv fluids without surgery (your vet would have to do x rays to determine this). The sooner she gets checked out the better if it's already been a while. I hope all goes well and my best to you both!

Since your cat has a history of ingesting a foreign body and has been vomiting so frequently I would be concerned. I would recommend taking him in to the vet to be examined and have X-rays performed to rule out a potential intestinal blockage. If a blockage is present emergency surgery may be needed. There could be a couple things that might be causing these symptoms in Ginger. You are correct that one of them could be a blockage, such as from a foreign body. That would make her feel very unwell, and not want to eat. Because her anus looks irritated, she could have intestinal parasite or her anal sacs could be impacted. If she isn't up to date on her deworming treatments, she will need on from the vet. Impacted anal sacs would also make her feel unwell, and not want to use the litter box. They may need to be expressed, and if you have never done this yourself, then I would have the vet do it. Finally, she could be constipated, which might be caused by any of the conditions I mentioned above, as well as low fiber in the diet and GI polyps. You can try mixing in some canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) in with her food to see if that helps her passes feces. Because she's not eating, I would try to tempt her to eat by gently heating up some really smelly wet food, such as sardine or fish based. If she is still showing these symptoms in the morning, then I would take her into the vet for an exam.

However, if she continues to vomit, this may be due to an obstruction and further therapy may be needed. I would recommend to take her to the vet ASAP. The concern with the bracelet is that is is causing a blockage in her intestine. The signs of this are not eating and lethargy. You will generally see vomiting as well. Blockages are serious and are fatal if they are not surgically corrected. There could be other reasons like pancreatitis or severe inflammation but you need to be sure there's not a blockage. I hope Sugar starts feeling better quickly!

You are right to be concerned about an obstruction in the GI tract. It sounds as though Avalon may have eaten something she shouldn't have since you saw foreign material in the vomitus. The only way to know for sure is to take Avalon to your veterinarian for examination and probably they will recommend x-rays of the abdomen to look for signs of an obstruction. Since she is acting normal now, you can consider withholding food and water for the next 8-10 hours, if there is anymore vomiting during this time she should be seen. If no further vomiting, then start offering a small amount of water, if no vomiting overnight, then offer a small amount of food in the morning. If no further vomiting after several more hours then return to normal feeding routine.

I'm sorry to hear that Bo is feeling so poorly. A foreign body intestinal and/or stomach obstruction will cause vomiting and nausea (drooling is a sign of nausea), a loss of appetite and lethargy. Foreign body obstructions require surgery and supportive fluids and medications for treatment. Without surgical removal of the foreign material, the intestinal wall will become severely diseased and perforate, causing intestinal contents to leak into the abdomen, causing severe infection (sepsis) which is life-threatening. Since Bo is doing so poorly, I strongly recommend taking him to the emergency vet immediately for evaluation and likely surgery. Do not give additional enemas or squeeze his bladder without direct veterinary guidance. Some over the counter enemas (such as Fleet enemas) are toxic for cats. Squeezing his bladder could also cause an intestinal perforation if the intestines are diseased from the foreign material. I hope that all goes well.
