My cat is on antibiotics. Can I change the dosing time for work?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10.5 lbs

Hi my cat has a respiratory infection, and is on antibiotics. I started his first dose at 6p last night. Then I gave him a dose 6a the next day but I don’t think all of the antibiotic made it in his mouth because I looked at the tube later on and saw it pretty much filled. Is there a chance I can change the time of giving him the antibiotic cause of work it’s better if I could give it to him around 11p

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sam. Since you didn't give all of the medication at once, you can switch the times to make it more convenient for you. Just make sure to give it at the new times consistently. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If you only gave the medication at 4pm and not both 4pm and 8pm she should be fine. Giving it 4 hours early is OK. Just try your best to give it every 24 hours if at all possible.

Can I give my cat human antibiotics from my medicine cabinet?

My short answer is no. Cats are very small compared to humans and the dosing is completely different. This is not a safe approach. Plus, antibiotics should never be given without a prescription by a veterinarian, as inappropriate use can lead to bacterial resistance, which can cause more serious problems. My cat won't take liquid antibiotics. How can I ensure she gets it?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can try mixing Sushi's antibiotics with a small amount of canned food or plain boiled chicken and trying to feed it to her. My cat's UTI antibiotic dose: what if I give it early or late?

It's best that Emma take her antibiotic as close as possible to her scheduled dose. If you absolutely cannot give it to her on time, I would not give it early. Give it later, and adjust the time you give her next dose to keep it on its prescribed scheduled. I hope this helps.
