My cat won't take Amitriptyline pills. Can I get a flavored liquid?

You will need to have flavored medications made at a special pharmacy called a compounding pharmacy. Your vet may know of a local compounding pharmacy that may make flavored medications, so I would check with them. No don’t crush the pills. It is very bitter. Shoving it down his throat and then chasing it with water to ensure swallowing is the best option at this point. You should really speak to your vet about having it compounded into a liquid - they can make it chicken or tuna flavor to make it more palatable. They can actually make it it many different forms. The other thing that I would suggest that works great is putting them in pill pockets which you can buy from your local pet store or online. They are very palatable so they tend to like them. Hello. 5 mg a day is a relatively low dose, so you can wean him pretty quickly. Decrease the dose by 50% ( 1/4 tablet ) for 2 days, then 1/4 tablet every other day for a couple of doses, finishing with 1/4 tablet every 3 days for a couple of doses & you will be safely done. Hello there and thank you for your post! I am not sure what medication you are trying to hide, but you could potentially have it compounded into a liquid form if that is easier. I've had clients use pieces of canned tuna to mash around the pill and that seemed to work well. I've had other clients use pieces of liverwurst to mash around the pill as well. You could also invest in a Pill Popper, which you can find in pet stores. Basically, a Pill Popper is a syringe like device that contains a hollow rubber tip which you can insert capsules or pills and safely administer them into the back of your cat's mouth.
