Why are there small bugs in my cat's new organic litter box?

They look like they could be tick nymphs but it’s difficult to tell since they’re far away in the picture. They don’t look like fleas or lice to me. Mites are microscopic. There are probably many, many other types of insects that do not infest cats that I’m not familiar with.

I can't tell for certain from the photo but if that is an insect, it could be a tick, bed bug, or skin mite. Look for legs or other identifying features. You may also opt to treat Toffee with a product like Revolution Plus which will safely treat ticks and mites in cats (you have ot be very careful, some tick products are toxic to cats). Cats can also get scabs, skin tags and other skin growths. If you don't see any insect features, you may try washing the area once a day with a medicated pet wipe. Don't apply any ointment as Toffee will likely just lick it off. Monitor the lesion for the next 2 weeks. If it is getting worse at any point or is still present in 2 weeks, have Toffee examined by the veterinarian. Without an image it would be hard to say what you are seeing. It could be a parasite, bug, etc crawling around. Checking the environment for anything similar may alert you to this, and you can use a flea comb and Dawn dish soap to kill any fleas on kittens that young. If mom is taking care of the kittens, she is likely cleaning/stimulating your kitten to go potty, however 4-5 weeks is around the age they should start showing interest in the litter box and start eating solid food so more stool may appear, and the momma cat may be taking him to a litter box to go potty as well. I can see where this is frustrating. It is possible that you had flea dirt on your bed. If flea dirt gets wet it can cause red color. I am not 100% sure but I would make sure you do not have bed bugs or anything else like that. I have seen clients bring in there pets for bugs and it is actually a bed bug problem (there pet did not actually have bugs). However like I said fleas could be a cause too. I would recommend taking D'd to the vet for a good check up and applying flea prevention every 30 days.

Without seeing the bug it is very hard to say what it might be. It could have been a tick, a flea, lice, or something else. I suggest you take her to a vet for an exam. They can give you an anti-parasite medication to put on her.

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Luna. It is possible that the debris you are seeing on her fur could be flea dirt, a byproduct that is present when animals have fleas.
