My cat chews through string toys. What are the best durable cat toys?

Jasper sounds like quite a character! I do recommend obviously to be VERY careful regarding chewing electrical cords. Many pets lose their lives each year due to chewing cords that are plugged in! Make sure to always replace tubes/keep them covered/keep them in areas that Jasper cannot access. You may even have a Jasper-proof room where he gets shut in any time you are not home to watch him. This is certainly a good safety measure. There are many toys options out there and I think KONG has a few that are aimed at cats who like to chew. Some even have tasty little treats that you can put in them, some have cat nip in them and I think he would have a lot of fun. It is important for you to remove any strings or movable pieces off the toys before you give it to him so that he doesn't swallow them. Also check the toys regularly for any pieces breaking off that he could swallow as this is a risk for intestinal blockage. I recommend to stick with toys meant for rodents. It's hard to know if toxicity is a potential concern but the small threads could become wrapped around his teeth. Many mice like to chew on cardboard boxes and toilet paper rolls. They also make wooden toys for rodents. The clear exercise balls and a running wheel will also be fun for Frankie. Unfortunately some cats love to eat strings and bite these types of objects. Hopefully since Peanut is so young he will grow out of it, but that may not always be the case. The concern with this if he swallows something and it gets stuck somewhere in his intestines. A string like object can be very difficult to find on X-rays and he could need surgery to find it. The only way to truly stop him from eating them is to make sure everything is put away. I would make sure you put time aside to play with him and get his energy out. Also make sure there are places he can climb up on and hide in. Hopefully with getting his energy out he doesn't have the energy to eat the string like objects. If Juna is obsessed with anything stringy, you will have to be vigilant about ensuring that she does not have access to anything she could possibly chew and ingest. When cats eat anything linear or stringy, they are at a HUGE risk of a linear foreign body obstruction, which is a surgical emergency and is life threatening. This occurs when a piece of the string/ribbon/yarn gets anchored in one part of their GI tract (ie under their tongue, in the stomach, etc) and the rest of the intestines end up scrunching up around it as they try to contract and move it along. The string can ultimately saw through and perforate the intestines, causing a septic abdomen. I recommend purchasing cat toys that are very durable and do not have any sort of fabric/string/yarn associated with them, and encourage Juna to play with those. If you ever notice that she is vomiting, hiding, uninterested in eating, and you believe she may have ingested any string, please have Juna seen by a veterinarian immediately so diagnostics (abdominal x-rays) can be done to evaluate for a foreign body obstruction in her intestines. Toys should be big enough to where she cannot swallow them. You can throw crumpled paper balls for her (cats love them, play with them and carry them around), get a few feathers, tie them together with a string and let her run after that. Get a laser pointer...she might like to hunt the dot. There are also plastic balls with a hole to be filled with some dry kibble, and she has to move it around for food to fall out one by one. My cats also like to play with small stuffed animals. That should give you a few ideas. He looks beautiful. Most cats love crumpled paper balls! But you can try the fuzzy mice that are available from a pet store or get one of the angling toys (a stick with an attached string and a fetherball at the end). You can also make a feather toy for him by gathering a lot of feathers, tying them together and throwing it. Anotehr great toy is a ball into which you can put dry food. The ball has a few holes and as he plays with it the food falls out. once he figures out how it works, it is a great toy. (But my cats still like the small crumpled paper balls best.....)

A good first step is to just stop playtime when Chandler starts to get too rough. If the fun stops the moment he gets too agitated and bites, he'll quickly learn that it's not fun to keep doing so. Once he has calmed down, you can then try another play session, again stopping if he gets too excited or agitated. Another solution is to play with a toy such as a feather on a string, where he can pounce and bite without coming close to your arms or hands. Offering a toy that he can chew on or bat with his paws and bite can also keep his mouth occupied instead of letting him munch on you. Laser pointers, toys that run around or move, etc, can also help get out that energy on things safer than your arms and hands.
