Are adopted pets spayed/neutered and dewormed before going home?

Many shelters do neuter dogs before placing them up for adoption. As long as they are old enough, usually 3-4 months old they can be neutered. Due to the cost some rescues and shelters don't do this until they are adopted. Check around your area and you may find ones up for adoption that are already neutered. Some Petco locations have a full-service veterinary clinic inside them which can do neuters (like a Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach clinic or Thrive vet clinic). Petco locations that use Vetco do not do surgery (neutering).

I would get Panacur from the vet to treat the worms. It's a three day course of treatment, and you will need to give a second course two weeks after the first one finishes to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every three months. I hope this helps!

The cost of a spay varies greatly but the least expensive option typically is doing it at your local humane society which you may qualify for.
