My 9-day-old cockatiel has mites. How can I treat them safely?

Ask your vet to look for ivermectin dosage for birds, he needs to use the injectable form (which he has for sure as it is widely used for dogs in India), he DOES NOT need to inject it to your bird, he only needs to put the small quantity on his skin back of his neck, usually one drop is enough), he will need to repeat it 3 times, each dosage one week apart.

Clean and sanitize the cage, bowls, toys and perches. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Use ain paper on the cage bottom and change it daily or more frequently if needed. It's very likely to be mites but there are no natural remedies for this condition, it is treated with a medication called Ivermectin, every vet has this medication and could provide it to you. coconut oil or Vaseline won't solve the problem or even help at all.

Thanks for reaching out about Oscar. Not sure about the Notix powder. Bathing with a baby shampoos such as Johnsons and Johnsons No Tears or Dawn dishsoap. These soaps can manually remove the lice. Provide a warm temperature to dry. Lice are rarely life threatening but a sign that Oscar is not grooming himself well, possibly due to other illness. Good luck.

The best way to keep them from having mites is keeping them away from other birds. Mites are contagious between birds. If your bird gets mites typically a anti parasite spray can be used to get rid of them. Also recommend cleaning the environment really well.
