Ringneck parakeet bites after I leave. Is it cage aggression?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

So i have a Ringneck Parakeet, it is still young and the ring around its neck is slowly becoming visible. My problem is that it hisses and bites whenever i leave it alone for 2 mins or so and when i come back its eyes changes into grey and tries to bite( whenever i approach my hand towards it). It will not bite if i give it a little kiss because it loves this, but i still don't understand why it wants to bite when left alone for few minutes. One more thing, it will not bite when it i put my hand

Hi and thank you for your question,
It sounds like a case of cage aggression possibly with some other behavioral issues. In general you could try taking Miku out of the cage using a glove or a stick and only once he's out to have him step up on your hand. Try to avoid any reaction when he bites as this will only make him continue doing so. Offer treats for stepping up nicely. You could also consider working with a professional trainer to solve some of theses issues. The change in the color of the eye is normal and reflects voluntary control of their pupils.
