My quail has foot sores and can't walk. What's wrong and how to treat?

Since it is progressing, he should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating birds. Injury, nutritional deficiency and infection (bacterial, fungal or viral) are all possibilities. A complete physical exam and diagnostics may result in a diagnosis. Supportive care may also be indicated.

If the foot is shriveled up it could be that the leg was deformed in the egg rather than broken, though if it was trapped a while that could have injured it as well. Soaking the feet in epsom salts and keeping them clean and dry with a clean washcloth can help resolve minor issues, however if the swelling worsens, the wound worsens, or Coqui seems very painful and isn't able to get around, vet care is needed. Your vet can help clean the affected area and provide antibiotics or other medication as needed.

Keeping Lizzy separate from the flock until she is healed can help prevent the rest of the birds from picking on her. However, if it isn't improving or seems broken/badly injured, vet care is needed.

I'm sorry to hear this! It sounds like this is likely related to the laceration, it could be that she is painful/swollen which is making her walk oddly. However there could potentially has been some damage to the nerves that run into the legs. If she is eating well and otherwise bright I would give her a day or so with minimal stress to see if she improves. If however, you feel that she is deteriorating or not improving I would take her to a vet as she may need some antinflammatory medication.

Without knowing what is wrong with Harry's feet it would be hard to recommend a treatment. If the area looks infected or sore, it would be better to use an antiseptic on it or Epsom salt baths on the feet to help relieve swelling and treat any infection. If the feet are sore, larger perches that are flat or more comfortable can help with sore feet. If the foot problem continues or Harry is showing other signs of illness, trying to find a vet in your area to figure out the problem so appropriate treatment can be given is best.

Poor Abood! You didn't mention if you received these medications from a vet, but if they were home remedies and haven't helped, it's time to visit one. It's possible there is an infection in the foot that needs to be drained, or a break or sprain of the foot itself that requires treatment. In the meantime, if you suspect an infection, Epsom salt soaks can help, as can removing all perches (to prevent a fall) and making food/water dishes easy to get in and out of so Abood isn't trying to use the foot to get around which may cause more injury. Soft bedding at the bottom of the cage can help keep him comfortable. However, seeking out a vet in person that can examine the foot, X-ray if needed, and provide additional treatment is best.
