My pigeon has recurring white stuff under its tongue. How to treat?

This looks like Pigeon pox, some birds recover from the disease spontaneously others don't but there is no treatment for it (not dangerous to humans). Pigeon pox is a viral disease to which pigeons are susceptible. Pigeon pox is caused by a virus that is spread by mosquitoes and dirty water but not in droppings. The disease causes pox scabs to form around the bird's face, mouth and feet.

Thanks for reaching out about Sheephony. This could be a few things. A bruise could explain the discoloration and should resolve. A compromise to the blood supply can lead to tissue dying, which is probably not reversible. A veterinary visit is recommended as soon as possible. Good luck.

Crop problems can be infections (bacterial, fungal, yeast), a crop foreign body or other problem, so a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to something not ideal in her nutrition. This may also be due to her being sick as she is also very weak. This is something that can be due to a number of reasons but for sure warrants a veterinary evaluation for further assessment and treatment. If it is a mass or tumor on his tongue, he will need to be physically examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian. The area in question can be aspirated with a needle to collect samples for pathology, if indicated, to identify it. You can offer soaked pellets or soft foods to make eating easier for now. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible until he sees the doctor.

Make sure there is nothing caught around the toe that could be causing constriction, if so remove it. It looks like the claw could be infected so you would need to take the pigeon to the vet and clean the toe with chlorhexidine whilst administering antibiotics such as baytril or terramycin.

It would be best to try and bring the bird to your vet ASAP to have it treated as the eye and beak both look like there may be a pox or other sort of infection irritating it. You can use a clean washcloth to remove any debris from the eye to help keep it open and more comfortable. Making sure to keep the bird away from any other pets or people is also a good idea to prevent the spread of any illness until it can be treated by your vet.
