Pigeon with short beak and eye infection: What to do before vet?

It appears that this pigeon is extremely ill. It is best to bring him to the vet you have in mind ASAP, or to a local wildlife rehab center that can see him as soon as possible and provide help. If you've already tried home treatment and he isn't improving, then seeking care ASAP is needed. Keeping him in a cage separate from other birds, with low perches and easy access to food and water may help, as well as keeping the area cool and dark to help avoid any undue stress until he can be seen by your vet.

Try cleaning the wound with warm water with a moistened cotton tipped applicator, to remove debris, dirt and pus. This wound management is often for long term, weeks or more. This may have been due to infection, trauma or poor nutrition. You would need to have the bird examined by an experienced avian veterinarian for a diagnosis. Treatment will depend on that diagnosis. Antibiotics may be needed in addition to a proper diet. In the meantime, keep the bird warm and as stress free as possible. if it is caged with others, house it singly. Offer a quality commercial pelleted diet. you may need to soak or moisten in to make eating easier. Offer small amounts of diced fresh fruits and vegetables as well as foods such as boiled egg, beans and plain pastas. A mineral block and cuttlebone should also be made available.

This is most likely pigeon pox. I would just leave it alone. There is no cure or treatment. In some cases it will resolve on it's own. It can be transmitted to your other birds. There is a vaccine and it is recommended.

Unfortunately, if the eye is infected it needs to be seen in person by a vet (even if it isn't an avian-specific vet) in order for medication to be prescribed. Keeping Karo separated in a warm hospital cage with easy access to food and water, and continuing to remove any debris from the eye can help until you can find a vet near you.

It looks like the pigeon's ear may be a bit inflamed or there is some sort of growth/infection present. If they are wild birds, it would be best to contact a local wildlife rescue or animal control in your area so they can safely capture, examine, and treat the birds before releasing them back into the wild.

Make sure there is nothing caught around the toe that could be causing constriction, if so remove it. It looks like the claw could be infected so you would need to take the pigeon to the vet and clean the toe with chlorhexidine whilst administering antibiotics such as baytril or terramycin.
