My rescued pigeon has a twisted neck from PMV. What care can I give?

Different infection can be causing these signs. Avian Paramyxovirus is one of the most common in pigeons (PPMV1) and it is a viral infection that is present in most countries that can spread rapidly and cause high rates of pigeon illness and death. Unfortunately the prognosis is guarded in these cases.

If you want to keep it, you should put it in a box, in quiet environment with water and food available at all times. However, If the pigeon is not taking any food or water and cannot keep the balance, you should take him to your local vets.

I'm sorry to hear that. Ideally, google wildlife rehabilitation in your area. Realistically, it doesn't sound like this bird is going to survive. For that reason, I would recommend that you contact a vet ASAP, and explain the situation. The vet can humanely euthanize the pigeon if he/she is concerned that the pigeon won't survive or be able to survive in the wild if it does recover.

Thanks for reaching out about Kunu and including photos. Unfortunately, the photos are difficult to discern. Torticollis or wry neck in pigeons can be a result of trauma, inner ear infections, viral diseases. Dehydration is another possibility. Dehydration and soft tissue trauma would be the only things that could respond that rapidly. Vitamin B deficiencies usually don't respond this quickly. If you need a definitive answer, a veterinary visit is needed for some diagnostics testing. Good luck.

It appears that this pigeon is extremely ill. It is best to bring him to the vet you have in mind ASAP, or to a local wildlife rehab center that can see him as soon as possible and provide help. If you've already tried home treatment and he isn't improving, then seeking care ASAP is needed. Keeping him in a cage separate from other birds, with low perches and easy access to food and water may help, as well as keeping the area cool and dark to help avoid any undue stress until he can be seen by your vet.

There are multiple causes of acute loss of legs including: spinal trauma, metabolic concerns (liver, kidney), infectious diseases (circovirus, aspergillosis), and more. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. For now, remove perches and provide a soft towel on which to sit. Ensure that food and water are within reach. Congenital/development problems or diseases such as paramyxoviurs, PBFD, bacterial meningitis, are all possible. A veterinary visit is recommended to assist with a diagnostic/treatment plan. They could be pushing her out of the nest due to her condition, and might need hand-rearing. Good luck.
