How to treat my parrot's chronic nasal issues without a vet nearby?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | African Grey | Female | 0.88 lbs

I'm a 1000km from the nearest vet. My rescue CAG parrot Bella have Asma from the day I got her. I remove nose stones and took a swap send it to te lab for testing. Test return with two gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Citrobacter sedlakii. She had a few months ago Baytrill injections for 5 days. I clean her nostrils every 2nd day with F10- also humidifier F10 2x per day. No Avian vets in Namibia. Vets in Windhoek 1000km said there is nothing any vet in Namibia can do for her. PLEASE

Thanks for reaching out about Bella. Nasal aspergillosis would be a concern. A deep nasal fungal culture should be submitted, and tested for sensitivity to anti-fungals. Nasal flushes could help dislodge the rhinoliths (nasal plugs). Steam treatments might also help keep nasal passages open.
Still, a veterinary visit is recommended.
Good luck.
