My green parakeet sits puffed up frequently. Is he sick?

I was wondering if the posture of the green parakeet in the photo is normal. He sits like this frequently, and I am concerned that it is not normal.

That could be not normal as this puffed up - feathers position can be caused by general illness that can cause high temperature. Any infection can cause that for example.
A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.

    If she is behaving normally otherwise, it may not be an issue. Monitor for lethargy, decreased appetite and loose droppings. Together, these are all symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian.

    Thanks for reaching out about Ringo. Sounds as if she is very sick and a veterinary visit is needed, ASAP. Only a veterinarian can help with a diagnostic and treatment plan.
    Removing perches and placing a soft towel on the bottom, for comfort. A heat lamp is needed to provide support in the 80-85 degree range.

Hi! Tiki is adorable! Congratulations on your new pet. Birds are often fluffed when they don’t feel well but they can also be fluffed if they’re cold or tired. If he’s eating and acting fine, evaluate the temperature in the room and presence of any drafts. If he is quieter, or has any change in appetite, defecation or activity, see a veterinarian without delay as birds can become seriously ill quickly. Regardless, I would recommend taki Tiki to a veterinarian for a new pet exam.
