My parakeet hit fan. Why does her wing hurt if it's not broken?

When a bird is hit by a fan, they are often in a great deal of pain. They can get broken bones, and also trauma to their brains. These can all cause them to be weak and quiet. I would recommend taking Mithu to a veterinary clinic as soon as you can. They will perform an exam to see where she is injured, and may recommend radiographs (x-rays) to check for broken bones. They can start medications to ease her pain, and may start antibiotics as well. Please don’t give Mithu any human medications at home, as many of these are harmful to birds. If she has any broken bones, there is the potential that she may not fly again. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon!

Thanks for sending the picture. i would not worry about wrapping the wing, but I would follow up with a veterinarian soon. Trauma to the wing is repaired better earlier than later. Make sure your pet bird is still eating well. Good luck.

Hi, flying into a ceiling fan can cause major injuries to a bird, especially a small one. At home all you can do is put her in a warm quiet environment and make sure she eats and drinks. Anything beyond that you will need to take her to the vet.

Your cockatiel's wing may be broken-0 it is hard to say. If he is holding it at an unusual angle or the end is bent, that is a sign it is broken. It could just be badly bruised. A vet can give you meds to help reduce the pain and swelling and take an xray to see if is broken. Young birds can heal well but they may need a little bandage to hold the bones in the correct place

Thanks for reaching out about Kiwi. A fractured wing needs to be seen and mended by a veterinarian. This is a painful situation. Separate from the parakeets, remove perches and provide a soft towel on the bottom of the cage. Providing supplemental heat support int he 80-85 F range can give some comfort. Good luck.

Oh no! So sorry to hear this happened. If she is acting normally, eating and drinking, etc. then I don't think it is imperative to take her to the vet. Just monitor her closely for any signs of illness and definitely take her in if that happens. As for the marks on her, you can use this spray on them if you want to but they aren't actually abrasions as the skin appears intact. It is only where the feathers have been removed and the should grow back with no issues. This is usually a sign of a wing injury, if he can still fly then the wing is not broken. if the problem does not resolve within a week i would recommend taking him to an avian vet specialist in order to get it checked and treated.
