My parakeet was bitten in a fight, now sick and not eating. Vet?

my parakeet got in a fight with another one got bit on back of neck and r wing now he is sickcrawls around cage eats very little

It sounds like he needs to be seen by a vet for treatment. The bite may have injured his neck/wing and/or he may have an infection secondary to the bite. A vet can take an xray to see if anything is fractured and prescribe an antibiotic, if needed to treat an infection. The fact that he is crawling around the cage and not eating is very concerning so please have a vet take a look at him as soon as possible. Also, keep him separated from the other bird so this doesn't happen again.

My goodness, poor guy. So sorry to hear this happened. That looks really painful. I cannot give you any information about his chances of surviving. You would need to get him examined by a vet in person to get any information like that. We cannot tell much just by looking at a photo. It is good that he is eating and drinking and you are doing the correct thing my giving him soft foods but milk is not a good idea; they don't need it and most parakeets are actually lactose intolerant. Softening bird pellets and feeding soft human foods is OK . You can also use a critical care diet like the one in the link below. I assume you also separated the birds?? If not, you need to do that. My best recommendation is to have him evaluated by a vet to get an idea of prognosis and to get him some pain medications.

Tommy is extremely ill, but i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, you will need to take him to an avian vet urgently where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease before it can be treated.

I'm sorry your birds got into a spat. First, if you haven't already, make sure they are separated. If Twitter is not using the leg, I would recommend that he be seen by an avian veterinarian. The leg could be fractured, or have extensive soft tissue injury. Since you saw blood, we know there is an open wound, and infection may be a possibility. At a minimum Twitter may need a prescription for pain medication. Keep Twitter in a warm, quiet low stress area until you can get him seen. Make sure that he is eating and drinking normally.

My bird is biting its foot and bleeding. How can I help my sick bird?

Poor bird! If the foot is at all infected, trying to find a vet that can help in person is best. However, until you can find one, it is a good idea to separate the bird from any cage mates to keep from being picked on, and move him to a warm hospital cage with larger, flat perches that will make perching easier on his feet. Keeping the foot clean and dry and using an ointment such as Blu-kote (most feed and pet stores carry this for use in poultry and other birds) can help prevent infection. You can also Google how to make a bird-sized Elizabethan (cone) collar to put on the bird so that he can't get to his foot and bite it while it heals.

Hi, what you are describing does sound like signs of illness. Kiwi could have an infection or other disease and it is important to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. They can do an exam and any tests that are needed to determine the best treatment. Birds do get sick quickly and tend to hide symptoms, so you are right to be concerned about these changes. Thanks for reaching out about D'vorah. She needs to be taken to a veterinarian, today. The concerns are she is septic, meaning bacteria from the bite wound has entered the blood stream. Systemic antibiotics are a requirement at this point, not something placed in the water as you can not control dose. See a veterinarian today. Good luck.
