Why is my lovebird rubbing her butt on the perch? Is she itchy?

This may be mating or sexual behavior. The whole seed indicates regurgitation instead of vomiting. The rubbing of the perch is likely mounting behavior. It should pass. You can provide different toys or rearrange the cage to distract him, but there is no cause for concern as long as he is behaving normally otherwise.

If a female, egg binding should be considered. Clumped stool in either sex could be due to liver, renal, intestinal and or infectious diseases. If the behavior continues beyond the next day or so, & it is accompanied by any lethargy or loss of appetite, she may also be in some distress if she has become egg bound. It could be that some stool is getting stuck, or that there is something causing irritation. Cleaning the area with a washcloth and checking for any wounds, redness, parasites, etc can alert you to any issues. Making sure Flint is on a balanced diet and isn't getting too many extra snacks can also help keep his stools passing with ease. She may be experiencing some sort of irritation such as GI upset/diarrhea, internal parasites, problems passing stool, or even attempting to pass an egg (though most parrotlets are not sexually mature until 10 months of age or older). Making sure she is on a balanced diet, and checking for any signs of parasites on the skin or stool may alert you to a cause that can be treated at home, however if the plucking continues, worsens, or you see other signs of illness, a vet exam is best to rule out any more serious issues.

Your little bird is fluffed and does look ill. The itching could be from a parasite that she has- like a mite. But is also could be related to egg laying- any chance she might be egg bound (have an egg stuck)? I would keep her warm and offer her favorite foods. she should see a vet to figure out what might be wrong.

He may have mites or a bacterial infection. There is also a serious viral infection that can cause similar symptoms. Have your bird examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet as soon as you can get an appointment. If your bird is caged with others, separate him until a diagnosis is made in case his condition is infectious.
