My lovebird has feather issues. Could it be PBFD or Avipolyoma?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Male

My lovebird, Clover, seems to have what I speculate to be pbfd. The breeder I got him from seemed a bit sketchy about his feathers, it's also noteworthy that this was the last lovebird in stock. I only took one photo because Clover looks like he's ready to sleep, but I think it shows a lot with his droppings behind him. I'm planning on getting him DNA tested but for now, I want to see what a professional thinks.

Thanks for reaching out about Clover and including a photo. Avipolyoma virus should also be on the diagnostic list. But agreed does not look good. Proper nutrition and heat support can help stimulate the immune system. If tests return positive, general anti-viral might delay progression but have not shown to be curative.
Good luck.
