Lovebird died with blood in beak. Is it contagious to my other bird?

So sorry to hear this! I suspect that the bird has suffered from a nasty haemorrhagic infection or possibly traumatic injury. Either of these could have occured to the respiratory tract, leading to coughing up blood, or the gastrointestinal system, leading to passing blood. It is impossible to know exactly what caused this without having the bird postmortemed. However, in terms of your other bird, I would thoroughly clean and disinfect the cage in case there are any traces of infection. Hopefully it was a one off incident and the other will be fine. If you do notice illness contact a vet immediately. They have a duty of care to all animals so will help you. I think the regurgitated seeds were likely just brought up due to death as opposed to an illness.

Unfortunately, it would be pretty hard to tell. Birds are masters at hiding any illness before it's too late. It's possible the eye was infected and the infection spread to the body, there was an injury that caused bleeding somewhere, or there was another unrelated illness causing the problem. If you had a vet that was seeing Pretty Bird, they may be better able to give you some answers. In the photo of her before she passed away, she appears very fluffed and sitting low on your head. These both are indicators that a bird doesn’t feel well. Since they are prey animals, they are very good at hiding their illness, even from their family members like you. The blood in the droppings could have originated from numerous areas in her body. These include her intestinal tract, her urinary tract, and her reproductive tract. With an issue in any of these areas, she could have had problems that were severe enough that they could have led to her death. I am so sorry again for your loss - she was a very cute bird.

If you call your veterinarian and ask, they should be able to help you figure out where to have this done in your area. As for your remaining bird, if you're concerned, I would recommend taking it in for a vet visit to make sure it seems healthy.

If Kara has been bleeding from the mouth and it is not stopping after several days, it is best to seek veterinary care immediately. It's possible there could be something in her mouth or throat that has caused injury and bleeding, there is a GI issue causing her to bring up blood, or there is something in her nose/mouth such as a growth or tumor that has burst and is now bleeding. A complete exam is needed to try and find the underlying cause. If she is currently housed with other birds, it is a good idea to move her to a separate hospital cage that is kept warm and with easy access to food and water. This can help avoid having her get picked on by other birds and injured worse, and prevent the spread of any potentially contagious illnesses until she can be seen by a vet.
