My lonely, aggressive budgie. Should I get another budgie or parakeet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 1 month old | 0.1 lbs

I had two budgies, both rescues about a month ago. One has recently passed away and the one that is left, Icarus, seems lonely. They got along perfectly and had a unique relationship. Icarus is pretty mean, bitey and fisety so I am a little worried with getting another budgie that will get beat up. Would another budgie be the best option or would a larger parakeet be better. A bourke or kakariki is what I was thinking. Thanks.

I am sorry for the loss of one of your birds. Another budgie would be an option. A gradual introduction would be needed along with close monitoring to prevent aggression and injury. A larger species would not be recommended.
