Is Lafeber's pellet food good for my conure? How to switch diets?

A commercial pelleted diet is most convenient and typically provides more complete nutrition. Recommended brands include Harrison's and LaFeber. A seed mix can be offered as well but limit amounts to prevent obesity. Fresh fruits and vegetables can also be offered. A simple search online will yield lists of acceptable fruits and vegetables.

Any formula for parrots or hookbills should be appropriate for conures. Most pet stores will carry something similar, so if you have one nearby you can use this list to shop for similar ingredients. Adding in some fresh fruits and veggies as snacks and treats can also help round out Meenu's diet and make things more exciting for her!

Thanks for reaching out. There are several brands with good quality nutrients and research. Roudybush or Harrison's are brands that most avian veterinarians approve. Look at the ingredients listed to make sure it isn't heavy in fillers such as corn or wheat. Transitioning to pellets is sometimes difficult but highly recommended. Pellets should not be the sole diet, but should be used to supplement fresh vegetables, a vegetarian protein source and other vitamin sources. Good luck

Hello. You will want to use a very good formulated pelleted feed for Loki. Stay away as much as possible from all seed diets. Pellets should compromise 75-80% of the total daily food intake. 20% of the diet should be fruits, vegetables & greens ( not lettuce ). AT this age, he should be weaning. Begin introducing a pelleted diet, about 1/4 cup daily to start. Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber or Pretty Bird are excellent brands.
