Why is my Indian Ringneck bird losing feathers, itching, and plucking?

my pet indian ringneck is losing feather from starting of this summer he is feeling itching on his body and regularly plucks his feathers .He is also losing feathers from his head and top of his beak please help i dont have any vet nearby or any pet medicine shop

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites.
First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation.
If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy.
Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc).
Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics).

It sounds as if Maple my be stressed in her current living situation. This could be because of a cage mate or, if she is alone in her cage, something in the environment. Stress can often cause birds to excessively groom and feather pluck.

The other thing that could be going on is a bacterial or fungal skin infection. This can cause the skin to be irritated and cause your bird to feather pluck.

If everything in her environment has remained normal then skin infection is most likely. This can be diagnosed with a simple test (skin cytology) by your veterinarian and medication can be given to help fix the problem.

This could be due to a skin allergy, although mites and skin infections are very common as well. An immediate check up would be required to confirm or rule out these clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Your vet may want to perform some skin scrapes and similar tests to establish diagnosis.

Why is my 8-week-old bird excessively itching and losing feathers?

The use of aloe vera on birds is controversial. Depending on who you ask, you may get a yes or no. Personally, I use only plain water to bathe my birds (African Greys). The itching may be due to mites (which you mayor may not be able to see), bacterial infection, viral infection or nutritional deficiency. By your description, it sounds as if Naomi may be bored, stressed or both. At her age, allowing flight would not be recommended. It looks like you may have an Indian ringneck or Alexandrine parrot based on the partial image. These birds typically aren't weaned until closer to 10 weeks of age. Weaning is a very stressful time for a chick and can also be a cause for her behavior.

Poor Guava! A good first step is a visit to your local vet to make sure there isn't an underlying issue such as nutritional deficiency, illness, infections, parasites, etc that are causing him to pluck feathers or preventing them from growing back in. Getting any health issues treated can help. Secondly, if he checks out otherwise healthy, feather plucking can become a behavioral obsession in birds, especially those that are stressed or underenriched. Making sure Guava has enough fun activities to do such as toys to play with, puzzles filled with treats, time spent together, etc can help enrich and prevent feather plucking. Making sure he's kept in an area that isn't too stressful can also help. You can also make an Elizabethan (cone) collar or place a "flight-suit" onto him to help obstruct his ability to feather-pluck and break the habit while allowing the feathers to grow back in.

My Ringneck parrot's head is bald. Why is she losing feathers?

It could be a molt, stress, malnutrition or infection (bacterial, fungal or parasites). Without a physical exam, it is difficult to determine what the underlying cause may be. Ideally, she should be seen by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime, clean and sanitize the cage, bowls, toys and perches. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Feed a well balanced diet and provide fresh water at all times. A bath or misting with warm water may promote preening and healthy plumage. Provide a variety of toys, attention and playtime to keep her engaged and active.

Why is my Indian Ringneck balding around its head, neck, and eyes?

Hello. If Obie has a mate, that bird could be plucking the head feathers. However, the feather loss around the eyes does not fit with mutual grooming/courtship behavior. This pattern of feather loss suggests some sort of skin infection, infestation, or inflammation. I would be sure to provide appropriate humidity to stimulate proper grooming behaviors, watch for any rubbing of his head or face on cage items or displays of itchiness/scratching. Beyond that, it will be necessary for a veterinarian to examine him and maybe run some tests on the skin to look for bacteria, yeasts, parasites, etc. That way, the best treatment can be started for Obie.

Hi and thank you for this question, It sounds as if Mithu should be examined by a vet. One possibility is a viral disease called psittacine beak and feather disease. This can be diagnosed from a blood sample. There may off course be other causes, but diagnosing them would require a vet exam.

If you suspect Mittu has a skin infection you will need to bring her into your local vet for an exam and for a prescription of antibiotics to help treat it- this may be either oral or in a cream form that can be placed directly on the affected area. You can also use a clean washcloth to gently clean the area and keep it free of debris until it can be examined. It is best to rule out other causes of feather picking as well such as parasites, boredom, malnutrition, etc, which is why it is important to have a vet take a look first before attempting to treat it. Moving Mittu to a hospital cage if she is housed with other birds can also help prevent her from being picked on until she is feeling better.
