My pet cockatiel flew away! What should I do to find my lost bird?

I'm sorry to hear about this! The best thing you can do is purchase/use another unused cage and fill it with food and water and place it in your backyard. If your budgie becomes hungry enough, she may come back to eat, which you can then close the cage and bring her back inside. If you do recapture her, a vet visit is best to check for any injuries. If she doesn't come back, her mate will likely be sad for a while as birds do bond, but if you have other birds, he may do OK. Eventually, adding in a new friend may help as well. It's hard to say if a pet bird would survive well in the wild or not. It greatly depends on the predators around, and the environment and food available.

Yes, Give her a chance to settle down. Close all doors and windows. Turn off any ceiling fans. Ate an hour or two, move slowly and speak quietly. You may need another set of hands to help out, otherwise you will be chasing her all night and stressing the both of you. If you have a lightweight sheet or pillowcase, you can use that to toss on to her and then gently scoop her up. Nets can be used, but care must be taken to not injure the bird with the ring or handle.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you are already doing everything you can to try and get Blue back. If you have a local animal shelter or vet, you may ask if they've had any reports that might meet Blue's description, or put up posters at their office. Otherwise, keeping up with what you are doing may help if she is nearby.

If the wing is hanging down it should be bandaged to his body to stabilize it until healed. This could take a month or two. There are many ways to do this. It is best for your vet to do it so you don’t make it too tight but you can google and watch you tube videos on how to do this. He needs to stay in the cage, don’t even let him attempt to fly until the wing is healed.

There are many possible causes for his symptoms including illness, infections, parasites, malnutrition, etc, and a complete exam in person is needed to help determine the cause. In the meantime, keeping him warm in a hospital cage separated from other birds, and continuing to give him food and water may help, but a vet visit is best.
