My conure is sad and angry after wing clipping. What can I do?

If Pepsi had never been clipped, he may be stressed or off balance. An improper wing clip may also lead to stress or temporary behavioral issues. Increase interaction and playtime to keep him distracted. Provide a variety of toys and treats as well until his feathers begin to grow in again.

If there is no visible injury but Kody still seems agitated, giving him a chance to rest and relax by keeping his cage quiet and dark may help him to settle back in. I would keep an eye on him, and if he stays agitated or doesn't return to normal after 24 hours, have a vet take a look to make sure there isn't an injury or issue causing his distress.

I am sorry to hear that your bird tried to escape. The good news is that the wings were clipped so he was unable to fly away. I would recommend continuing to keep the wings clipped to prevent him from escaping. It is important that when you get him out of his cage to interact with him that you make sure the area is secured with no open doors or windows. The more you get him out of the cage and interact with him the more used to it he will be and the less likely he will want to fly away. I would recommend having his wings trimmed every 1 to 2 months to prevent him from flying away. It may also be beneficial to train him to come to you for a treat so that, in the event of an escape, he will be trained to come back to you instead of wander off. I hope this helps. It is certainly posdible that he could be damaged as they are quite delicate and their bones are relatively brittle. However I doubt this is the case, more likely I think that the bird has got really stressed when being held and overheated and likely struggled for breath. Handling can be incredibly stressful for birds and sometimes can even result in heart attacks. I would kerp him in a really calm and quiet environment as this has likely taken a large toal on him and he needs to rest. If there is no improvement you will need a vet check just in case there has been damage.

You don't "need" to get them clipped. The feathers do not grow back, rather they are replaced after a molt. If you choose to have him evaluated by your veterinarian, simply warm up the car and then cover the cage when you go from pace to place. He should be fine to travel this way.

Your veterinarian may recommend a bandage, and can prescribe medications, such as pain relievers. Having the area covered and protected may allow It to heal faster. As far as the wing trim goes, you may decide to allow the feathers to grow out and not be cut in the future if you want Elmo to be able to fly. Clipping wings can be beneficial if you are letting your bird out a lot to help keep him from escaping or running into things. If you've never clipped his wings before, I highly recommend having a vet do it the first time so that they can show you in person where the wings need to be clipped, how short, and how often. From then on, you can begin to clip the wings on your own following those instructions as well as other tutorials. if you do clip the wing yourself, be sure to have items such as styptic powder on hand in case you accidentally clip too far and need to stop any bleeding.
