Why is my cockatiel lifting its back, showing red vent, and making noise?

Hi, Chicko may be a male, but since he’s so young, his light orange cheek teaches may need time to brighten as he reached sexual maturity. However, the solid vs batted tail feathers you refer to is also an accurate way to tell the difference. However, I would need to see the underside of the tail feathers (not the top). If the the underside is speckled or barred, then Chicko would be female, if feathers are solid then should be male. The cheek patches should brighten in time with maturity. I hope this helps!

Is he/she was ill, would think wouldn't be as active. The white cockatiels often have horizontal bars on the inside of the primary feathers. Good luck.

Both sexes can sing but male are usually more vocal. Some of the breeds have distinguishing external characteristics like brighter cheek patches (males) or horizontal bars on tail and primary feathers (once sexually mature). A veterinary visit can take a small blood sample to determine sex. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Tring Tring and including photos. Bobbing up and down could be respiratory problems. Wagging sideways could be a broken tail feather or pain for other reason. Still eating and defecating? Check the vent for accumulation of feces. If continues, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess. Good luck.

If the behavior continues beyond the next day or so, & it is accompanied by any lethargy or loss of appetite, she may also be in some distress if she has become egg bound. This will require an examination by your veterinarian. Hopefully, all she is doing is flirting with your husband. Take care.

If she had been attempting to lay, it is possible. Parasites and GI upset/illness may also cause blood in the stool or rectum. If she seems very ill, lethargic, painful, is picking at her vent, doesn't want to eat or drink, etc, then I would bring her into the vet to have her examined and make sure there isn't a more serious issue ongoing.
