Can a cockatiel be happy living alone, or does it need a friend?

That many birds should get along fine as long as you have enough space for them. Four birds would need a very large flight cage or even an aviary to ensure they all have the right amount of space and room to move around. I think if the new bird would feel comfortable with a companion in his cage then it would be beneficial in helping to tame him. However, if the new bird acts stressed with a cage mate it would be better to leave them separated. Be patient and go slow with the new bird, using lots of treats to help coax him into feeding comfortable with you. It will also help if the new bird watches you interact with your other bird. If the cage is large enough for two birds and they are introduced gradually, another female cockatiel could be added. Adding a male will likely lead to mating and egg laying. Also, the possibility exists that the birds will bond with one another and interact less with you.

These parrots don't like to be along, so either bird or human company. The problem with adding another bird, is not all birds get along and in a cage there is no escaping aggression. You are doing the right thing by keeping her company and giving her a little extra love an attention. If she doesn't perk up, or seems lonely, even with your other bird there, adding a new friend may be a consideration, but it may be best to give her some time first.

Ideally, Pidori should be examined by a veterinarian to confirm good health or to treat any pre existing conditions. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites (worms). Provide a cage large enough to prevent wingtip or tail rubbing. A cuttlebone and/or mineral block should be provided as well. Place several perches in the cage. Use perches of varying sizes and thickness to promote foot health. Feed a quality commercial pelleted diet as the staple (80%). Supplement with a fortified seed mix and fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, avocado and pits or seed from fruit. Cockatiels can eat a wide variety of fresh foods such as pastas, cooked egg and beans. Signs of illness include very loose or discolored droppings, a loss of appetite, lethargy (especially when perched with feathers fluffed out).
