My cockatiel still has diarrhea and fatty liver. What should I do?

I would bring her in for a recheck exam with the vet that first examined her and diagnosed her and get some bloodwork done to recheck her liver values. Diarrhea or changes in stools can sometimes indicate that something isn't right, and if you've already tried changing her food around without success it's time for an exam. Your vet can also help rule out more common issues such as internal parasites that may also cause watery stool to occur. Moving her to a cooler area if it's too warm may also help. but if her symptoms don't resolve, or worsen, seeking vet care is best.

Discontinue the millet temporarily. If possible, transition him to a pelleted diet. Recommended brands include Harrison's, Lafeber, Pretty Bird, KayTee Exact or Roudybush. You can still give seeds, just limit the amount. Once the droppings normalize, supplement with fresh greens, vegetables, cooked grains, pastas and beans. Submit a sample of the droppings to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite or persistent loose droppings. Have him examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet if necessary.

It's good that you're keeping her separated, and I would do so by keeping her in a warm hospital cage to see if that helps her improve. It's possible the diarrhea could be due to a diet change and the stress of coming to a new home, so giving her a day or two to see if she improves may help. Checking for parasites, and making sure she's on a balanced diet (removing any snacks or fruits and veggies for a few days if she has GI upset) may also help. As for the toe, that is very common in commercially bred birds. If it is causing trouble I would have it examined when you are able, but provide low, flat perches and platforms for her to hang out on in the meantime. This can help her stretch the toe and have a place to relax without losing balance. If she doesn't improve in a day or so, or seems to get worse, it is best to try and find a bird vet in your area that can see her right away.

Without examining your bird in person, or knowing any other symptoms beside "loose stool" it would be impossible to tell what is going on with Kiwi. If she is listless and doesn't seem to be doing well, or has an infection, speaking with the vet that examined her and prescribed the antibiotic syrup is best as they will best know her case history. Keeping her warm, in a clean cage, and with easy access to food and water can help. Making sure she is eating a balanced diet and not just sunflower seeds (which are very fatty and could be causing the diarrhea) can also help to get her feeling better. If the medication isn't helping or she isn't feeling better, seeking another appointment in person is best.

Unfortunately, those are very vague symptoms of illness that can be caused by a great number of things including GI upset, nutritional issues, parasites, illness, etc. You can try a few things at home first to see if it helps Ria improve. If you are feeding her many extras such as fruits and veggies, these can sometimes cause loose stool. Removing these extras and feeding only her regular balanced diet for a few days may help this clear up. If the problem continues, she may need to see a vet (if you don't have a bird-specific vet, a regular one may still see her) to check for parasites or other more serious issues which will need to be treated. If she is very ill, moving her to a hospital cage away from other birds to prevent the spread of illness and being picked on, and providing her easy access to food and water may help until you can get vet care.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, avocado and pits or seed from fruit. Cockatiels can eat a wide variety of fresh foods such as pastas, cooked egg and beans. Signs of illness include very loose or discolored droppings, a loss of appetite, lethargy (especially when perched with feathers fluffed out).
