My cockatiel laid eggs, some broken. Is their incubation normal?

That can be normal, yes. You can check the eggs when they are not sitting on them to see if they are viable - eggs that are fertile usually start off very translucent and then become more opaque (darker/more solid color) as the embryo develops inside. (12 days should be enough to see this change.) If the eggs don't seem viable, or the parents stop sitting on them, they can be removed. If they aren't hatched after 3-4 weeks, they are likely not viable and should be discarded. Make sure you offer an extra source of calcium for your female in the form of eggfood or a cuttlebone. This can help replenish the calcium that was used in making eggs and prevent egg-binding (an egg getting stuck) if she decides to lay more.

Thanks for reaching out. No, it sounds as if your are headed into the correct direction. Check and improve diet, needs to include vegetables, especially greens for calcium. Birds loose lots of calcium when they lay eggs, and needs to be replaced in the diet. Good luck.

Stress might also cause behavioral changes where they break/eat the egg. Maintain a good diet as laying lots of eggs is a huge calcium loss and they need to replenish. Good luck.

Ouch! It looks like the egg may have been a bit large and caused some discomfort, or was just produced too quickly. If she is otherwise acting normal, keeping an eye on her is best, however if she is actively bleeding or appears in distress/unable to defecate properly, it is best to seek veterinary care immediately.

Calcium deficiencies can manifest in bone and/or nerve problems. A radiograph is recommended to assess bone density and if egg bound. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give aid. Removing perches and placing a soft towel on the bottom of the cage can also give comfort. Good luck.

Removing the nest and current eggs won't replenish any currently lost calcium, but it may discourage Phoebe from laying more. If she doesn't have a mate, the eggs aren't viable and should be removed anyway. If you suspect she may lay more eggs, adding in a calcium supplement such as oyster shells or a cuttlebone (you can also use cooked eggfood, there are lots of recipes online) can help replenish calcium in addition to feeding her regular diet.
