My chicken has fowl pox. Will a vaccine cure it or is it too late?

It sounds like fowl pox, if you have more than one bird- separate him from the rest. this is a viral disease that doesn't have a cure but tends to go away after a few weeks, it's recommended boosting your rooster's immune system with a vitamin supplement.

If you mean the vaccine, AviPro is a recommended vaccine against pigeon pox. It takes 3-4 weeks to reach maximum protection and should be given yearly to all the birds in your flock. Isolate unexposed or unvaccinated birds.

This is most likely pigeon pox. I would just leave it alone. There is no cure or treatment. In some cases it will resolve on it's own. It can be transmitted to your other birds. There is a vaccine and it is recommended.

There are all different types of vaccines for chickens developed by many different companies. These companies engineer them in particular ways so that they will only be absorbed effectively via certain delivery routes. If your veterinarian informed you that they should be administered a certain route, I would follow those directions. If you feel that you can only give it orally, I would ask and see if there is another vaccine available that is labeled for this delivery route. Otherwise, ask him if he is has ever given this one orally and had any problems.

This looks like Pigeon pox, some birds recover from the disease spontaneously others don't but there is no treatment for it (not dangerous to humans). Pigeon pox is a viral disease to which pigeons are susceptible. Pigeon pox is caused by a virus that is spread by mosquitoes and dirty water but not in droppings. The disease causes pox scabs to form around the bird's face, mouth and feet.

You can candle the remaining eggs to see if they are fertile or viable. Chicken eggs need about 21 days incubation before chicks hatch. Fowl cholera is spread through the mucus of infected chickens and can survive for up to 3 months in the environment under optimal conditions. It is not likely the chicks will hatch already infected.

It would be best to try and bring the bird to your vet ASAP to have it treated as the eye and beak both look like there may be a pox or other sort of infection irritating it. You can use a clean washcloth to remove any debris from the eye to help keep it open and more comfortable. Making sure to keep the bird away from any other pets or people is also a good idea to prevent the spread of any illness until it can be treated by your vet.
