Why is my budgie whistling and keeping its wings slightly open?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed

Hi, my budgie has recently been making short whistle type of sounds. There isn't any physical symptom though. And slightly keeps her wings open. Is there anything to worry about?

Without more info it is hard to say. Holding the wings away from the body can sometimes be a sign of stress or illness, or can be part of heat regulation if your budgie is kept in a very warm area. Making sure she is cool, in a shaded area, and has access to food and water may help if she is feeling stressed. If she does show signs of illness, doesn't improve with the changes, or just doesn't seem right, a veterinary exam in person is best.
