My female budgie's nose bled. Why is her cere dark and flaky now?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female

I have budgie, she had a little bit of bleeding on the bottom part of her nose, i guess because of sharp edges of cuttlefish bone, blood is although dried, but what else should i do to prevent infection and here nose is turning dark brown from last week and there is a white flaky substance over it, i have attached the pictures

Thanks for reaching out about Chiuu and including photos. The lesion on the cere seems superficial and does not need to be treated unless becomes worse. The thickened cere is a common female trait when ovulating. This means she could become reproductively active and possible lay an egg.
Good luck.
