Why is my new budgie climbing, not playing, and eating so little?

Give Buddy some time! It takes awhile for birds to get used to new surroundings. Make sure he has many perches, toys, and fresh food and water available, and try to leave him alone for a few days to adjust to his new environment.

Your budgie is probably just stressed and trying to get used to his new environment. Try offering him a special treat, like a seed or a piece of fruit to entice him to eat. Even if he is not eating his food be sure to put fresh food in the cage each day. He may also only be eating when no one is watching him. Congratulations on your new birds! If the flying back and forth is in response to when you are putting your hand into the cage this could be due to fear or being startled. If he is randomly flying throughout the day with no relation to you approaching then it could be him just exercising. Millett is a treat that is very useful in helping gain your budgie's favor as well, so letting them nibble some from your hand or while you touch them if they are comfortable with you touching is helpful in making interaction with you a pleasant experience and can eventually be used to lure them onto your finger or hand!

I would recommend giving her a little more time to adjust, as long as she is eating and producing feces. You can find these at the bottom of the cage. Alternatively, you can also take her to a veterinarian for evaluation. This is a good idea from a wellness perspective, as it will slow you to gather information about her baseline health, and your vet can determine whether Frost is ill or not. Sometimes it is very difficult to see a bird drink, they don't do it very often and usually in private. If he had not drank in 2 days I would expect him to be very poorly by now. I would keep an eye that he is bright and eating and he should be okay. In terms of taking him gradually put your hand in the cage, don't touch him at first. Once he is comfortable move your hand closer and so on until you can eventually have him on your finger.

The squawking and knocking stuff over is normal, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's best to get bowls that can be fixed into position to prevent this. It generally takes them 2-3 weeks to start getting comfortable in a new environment. It's definitely good to interact with them and get close to get them (putting your arm in the cage is good) more familiar with you. Offering treats is always a good way to make friends. Alejandro is going to be scared until he gets use to him new environment. I would recommend keeping him in a place quiet with low traffic for a while. You can also start by feeding him a special treat . This treat should be one that only you feed. That way he looks forward to interacting with you specifically.
