My bird is spinning, having seizures, and losing feathers. What's wrong?

I would be concerned that something serious is going on with your bird. Weakness and seizure activity can be a sign of progressive liver disease. Ideally you should find an avian veterinarian in your area that can help diagnose what is going on with Tequila. The vet will most likely recommend lab work and possibly X-rays. I would strongly recommend a veterinary check up as soon as possible to determine the underlying cause of the seizures and give appropriate treatment. Infectious diseases affecting the central nervous system, nutritional causes, toxicities, secondary seizures (liver problems), metabolic diseases (hypoglycemia and hypocalcemia) are only few of the differentials. This presentation may be commonly cause by seizure episodes which may be mild to severe, partial or generalized, frequent or infrequent; and may involve twitching, paddling or convulsing. A bird may present a sudden, temporary loss of consciousness and control of motor function it may appear disoriented and unable to perch. Metabolic /nutritional causes, infective diseases like Avian Bornaviral Ganglioneuritis (PDD), Aspergillosis / Aflatoxins and West Nile Virus (WNV), traumas and brain injuries may all be causing these signs. That is very odd behavior. If Salyt is unable to hold her head in the proper position, seems in severe distress, or is otherwise acting ill it would be best to have her examined by a vet in person as she may be injured or ill. It is also possible she was just very excited and flapping around to show her excitement, however she would be able to return her head to normal after and should still be active, eating, drinking, etc. Keeping an eye on her, and if she seems ill or doesn't return to normal, seeking vet care is best.

First of all, you should seek an appointment with an experienced avian veterinarian. Nutritional deficiencies (calcium, protein, vitamin A, etc.) are only one of the possibilities. Diseases that affect the kidneys or liver, affect how the body assimilated proteins, and therefore feather growth. Quivering and shaking could be signs of being cold, but also tremors such as mild seizures. Once, again, you would do best by seeing an avian veterinarian as soon as possible. Good luck.

Seizures can be due to nutritional deficiencies, liver or kidney disease, several viruses, exposure to toxins, etc. A veterinary visit is recommended for assistance with a diagnostic/treatment plan.
