How to ensure a bird's safety with dogs and cats in your home?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi I have a question I would like to ask I am wanting to get a bird that would be in a nice home i have 2 dogs and 2 cats but one my cats hardly comes up stairs and the bird would be in my room where none the animals go so the bird would be safe and secure so I was wondering if a bird would feel nice and conferrable in my home and I could take him out slowly so the cats and dogs won't hurt him. Also my cats front claws are declawed so they can't really harm him and they are both very laid back.

Yes, it sounds like you would provide a safe and loving home for a bird. I like your plan to keep it separate to reduce stress on the bird. Gradually introducing it to the other animals would be good once it’s very relaxed and settled in.
