My bird won't eat or drink, is weak, eyes closed. Is my bird dying?

If not eating or drinking, this is very serious as these small birds have little caloric stores to compensate. Providing supplemental heat in the 80-85 degree range might give some aid. A veterinary visit is highly recommended, and soon. Older budgieregars are prone to metabolic concerns (kidney, liver) and other problems. Thanks for reaching out about Furball. If she is that sick , she needs to visit a veterinarian, ASAP. Small birds have few energy reserves and once start showing illness, illness is significant. Heat support, assisted fluids and food are important, but are not a cure. If there a chance of metal ingestion such as zinc or lead? I am very concerned based on what you were describing that your bird is very ill. I would recommend trying to hand feed her or syringe feed her a critical care supplement to try and get her appetite back where it needs to be. Unfortunately, without an examination by a veterinarian there are no over-the-counter remedies that I can recommend that I can be sure will be safe for your bird. Try to interact with her as much as possible and encourage her to eat. Also make sure she is in a warm dry room and see if that helps. Thanks for reaching out about Eelu. It sounds as if she is sick and needs to see a veterinarian. If no avian veterinarian is available, a dog/cat vet is recommended. A bird with feathers fluffed, eyes closed and hanging by the beak seems too weak to perch or eat well. Providing supplemental heat might give some comfort but is not a treatment. Removing perches and placing a towel on the bottom of the cage will prevent falling. Good luck.

A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. If not eating or drinking and weak, a veterinary exam is even more important, and quickly. Do not worry your English is perfect. The signs you are describing are quite concerning as they reveal extreme lethargy. Please provide more informations about her condition to receive a more specific answer. Tell us if she is still eating, drinking if she has diarrhoea, or any discharge from eyes or nose. Hi and thank you for your question, Sorry to hear about Melody. Unfortunately, there is not a lot you can do at home, and the signs you are describing are to general to know what is causing this. You will have to take her to the the vet ASAP as this may be life threatening. Regards
