My bird's nail is bleeding after trimming. What's the emergency fix?

Apply gentle pressure with a wet(cold water) towel and disinfect the area with salt water, or by using an hibiscrub or betadine solution (you can find them in boots - store). A check up then would be ideal to determine the underlying source of the bleeding and have appropriate treatment options.

If you can't get to the vet immediately, styptic powder or corn starch can be applied to the wound to help stop the bleeding until you can seek care. Ouch poor birdie! It looks like she may have lost more than a few feathers, and yanking out healthy feathers can definitely cause bleeding and is very painful to your bird. If you have it on hand, styptic powder can be used to stop the bleeding on the skin. If you don't have that, corn or potato starch can be used as a substitute. Keep the area cleaned and dry, and if the bleeding continues, the area looks infected or badly wounded, or if Canela is in a lot of pain, seek veterinary care as soon as you can.

Clip the nail carefully. If there is bleeding, gentle pressure and some Quik Stop powder or plain cornstarch should stop it. Clean daily with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution. A dab of a triple antibiotic may be applied if necessary. Monitor for redness, swelling or lethargy. If she won't allow you to clip the nail, she may need to be seen by your veterinarian. Clip the other nails a bit to prevent snagging.

Your husband is correct to an extent, sometimes we do use glue on wounds, but it is specially made surgical glue. You could not gaurantee the safety of superglue, and a bird is not a particularly heavy animal so they are more at risk to toxicity. In the vets we use a powder called potassium permanganate to stop bleeding. But to be honest if you are careful when clipping the claws there should be no bleeding.
