My bird was bitten by a cat. Her wing is bleeding. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 5.1 lbs

Pepa was bitten on the wing by Oberin the cat. She was bleeding so i put some hydrogen on the wound and the bleeding stopped but the wound is big and looks bloody. The vets here dont work with birds. I am afraid if she is gonna survive the trauma. Any advice?

My best recommendation is for you to find an avian veterinarian. If there are none in your area you may be able to find one at a nearby teaching hospital/vet school or a specialty/referral center. You may also want to try calling the store where you got Pepa and see if they can refer you to an avian veterinarian.

In the meantime, it is good that you were able to stop the bleeding. Continue to monitor Pepa and keep her warm and encourage her to eat. Hopefully the wound was just superficial and won’t cause any issues. You can also try putting a small amount of triple antibiotic ointment on the wound to help prevent infection.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any additional questions. Best of luck!
