Why is my Amazon parrot tired and sitting at the bottom of its cage?

I am sorry birdie is not feeling well. I usually get concerned when birds are sitting at the bottom of the cage or having changes in behavior. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian just to be on the safe side he is healthy and not becoming sick. A range of issues can cause birdie to become ill so a vet visit is best.

Thanks for reaching out about Pablo. Sleeping on the bottom of the cage is a general sign of weakness or illness. Remove perches and provide a soft towel on which to lie. Provide heat support in the 80-85 F range for aid. A veterinary visit to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan is recommended. Respiratory diseases (psittacosis) and gastrointestinal infections due to Trichomonas and Giardia are quite common as well. It would be best to bring your bird to a local avian veterinarian, especially if he has been ill for a few weeks. it's possible that an underlying illness, neurologic issue, muscular disease, stroke or other problem has occurred that needs to be examined and treated as needed. In some cases birds may not recover fully, and you may need to adjust your bird's environment to help him get around a little easier, such as adding in flat platform perches or changing access to food and water.

Illness, infections, parasites, malnutrition, etc can all cause a bird to become ill and lethargic. Until you can get to the vet, you can move Sky to a separate hospital cage that is kept warm if she is kept with other birds, with easy access to food and water, and in a calm, quiet location. This may help her some until your vet can determine the issue.
