How much should I feed my 5-month-old mini pig to prevent obesity?

Pigs grow at different rates, so it is very difficult to say your pig should weigh X pounds at X age. Adult pot bellied pigs can reach 200lbs. You can feed her a commercial pig chow. It should be a maintenance formula not a pig starter. Common brands include Mazuri, Manna Pro and Heartland. Penelope can eat 1.5-2 cups of chow daily. Divide into two feedings. Additionally, fresh vegetables should make up about 25℅ of her diet.

Dog food won't be formulated to Sprout's nutritional needs, so no I would not allow her to eat the dog food. Keep the dog food away from her, and just feed her the mini pig food. I hope this helps!

It good to be concerned about Mimi's diet. I like to feed based or her condition (thin or fat) and how hungry she is, not based on calories. A small poodle needs to eat four to six small meals a day to prevent hypoglycemia, low blood sugar, which is common in very small active puppies. It can result in seizures. I feed a good quality puppy food either dry or canned and feed enough at each meal that Mimi is hungry and just finishes it. If she is ravenous you are not feeding enough. As she gets older and bigger she will not be as hungry and you can reduce her to two meals a day. A treat when she pees and poops outside is good and give one when you put her into her crate. Ideally he would eat four times a day. At the least, he should be fed three times a day. It's best to feed a quality puppy food that is specifically formulated for puppies and it should be fed according to the manufacturers recommendations - they will have the daily recommended amount per body weight. Just looking at pictures makes it hard to see if your Guinea Pig is overweight. Maybe a little bit? Just make sure that she gets LOTS of hay, a decent pile of greens, not too many pellets (and the pellets should be timothy based pellets with no junk food in them) and very limited treats and you should be ok.

This question is hard to address because I don't know what you are feeding and how much. Those are key questions to addressing this problem. Exercise is key of course but food intake and what types of food are very critical for maintaining a good body condition. I would advise a visit to a vet in your area familiar with guinea pigs to let them see Brownie and make some recommendations or post another question here with the above information. It's all about food intake and exercise unless something is physically wrong with him. Good luck.

Hello, as the owner of several overweight minis, I share your pain. Your pictures do not show a particularly heavy horse, so you have a good place to start. If you have ever been to a mini show, you have to wonder how they get those horses into such amazing shape. Very careful diets are 1 component, exercise is the next & maybe the most important. Those minis are worked, either by hand, or treadmill, or automatic walker non-stop during the show season. You will also need to be very judicious with the hay. Feed no more than 1.5%-2% of his body weight. No grain or pellets, period. And when he goes out on pasture, place a grazing muzzle on him.
