Why is my horse stretching with feet forward, head low? Colic?

The best and only option is to call a veterinarian immediately as it is an emergency. Your vet will examine your horse, do a rectal exam, tube the horse to check for stomach overload and also for the reason for the colic. Treatment varies according to cause of the colic. Worst case scenario is that the horse dies, or needs abdominal surgery. Your vet will give the horse pain medicine and a smooth muscle relaxant intravenously and possibly tube mineral oil via stomach tub. Please, if your horse is colicking, call your veterinarian immediately.

Sounds like he is colicking. I suggest you get a vet out there to check him out. Glad he drank some water and had some electrolytes but the fact that he keeps laying down is not good. He may need some Bute or Banamine (anti-inflammatory) - he may have muscle inflammation from being down/tangled.

If she's not eating, she's eating painful, colicky, or both. Take a heart rate if you know how to do this--normal is 20-40 beats/minute. If it's higher than this, she's painful and needs to see a veterinarian. If she is rolling, looking at her sides, or not passing manure, she needs to see a vet as these are signs of colic. If you really think she's resting her hocks, then they are sore, and she needs xrays to see what kind of arthritis is going on and what steps you need to take to make her more comfortable. Your horse could have a mild colic or some other medical issue going on. I would watch him carefully to make sure he starts to eat normally, is drinking water, and passing stool. Keep calling local vets until you can reach one and have them come out to see her. Keep her as calm as possible, and confined to an open area in case she tries to roll. Remove her feed, and walk her. Walking can prevent her from rolling, and can help provide pain relief and encourage defecation. Get a vet out to your place asap.

Oh poor JoJo! The stretching can be a sign of stomach pain, as well as moving slowly and her tail tucked between her legs. I would monitor her for now, and if she is still acting this way in the morning, I would have her seen by a vet. If she develops other signs such as unproductive vomiting, bloated abdomen, looking at her abdomen, or restlessness (all signs of bloat), take JoJo into a vet immediately.

Based on your description it sounds like Colin may have suffered a puncture wound with something in his rear end. The lump you are seeing could either be some purulent fluid building up inside, or it could be a foreign object that is still inside (whatever it was that caused the puncture). If you are feeling significant amounts of heat emanating from the affected area, it is likely there is an infection brewing. The area may have to be lanced, drained, and then the horse treated with systemic antibiotics. The dragging of the left toe is hopefully not related to an ascending infection to a joint, but instead I hope it is just from a generalized pain from whatever Colin is feeling.
